Cold Cold Heart switches narratives between Dana’s story and John, Casey’s ex boyfriend who was also a suspect in her disappearance. It’s an interesting parallel because John is a war veteran with a traumatic childhood. He is also back home, battered and brain injured. Other characters of interest include Tim, Dana’s ex-boyfriend and current detective, and Dana’s mom (the empathy I felt for her character was tremendous).
I was definitely on the edge of my seat wondering what was really going on and expected some good twists. The twists finally delivered in the last 10-15% of the book. (One good thing about reading from a digital format is I can get precise 😂).
