This was my 2nd time visiting St. Charles but my first time eating at Tony’s on Main Street. This restaurant was the #1 rated restaurant and I can see why!! https://www.tonysonmain.com/gallery
Service and Atmosphere at Tony’s On Main Street
The service and food were both fantastic. The inside of Tony’s on Main Street is more of an industrial/exposed brick type feel. It was very dark where we were sitting so don’t forget your reading glasses to read the menu!! Or read it at your convenience here: https://www.tonysonmain.com/menus
Drinks at Tony’s On Main Street
I love Sangria and one cool thing about Tony’s on Main Street is they offer a seasonal sangria. The sangria flavor of the day was mango, and it was good, not the best I’ve ever had but definitely not the worst. It was refreshing and tasted like summer. I later tried the Raspberry Lemon Drop martini and definitely preferred it to the sangria.
Two Words: Provel Cheese
The salad was delicious because of the house dressing and the provel cheese. Both were so good we had to ask our server about them. The house dressing is a mixture of french and italian. You can buy the dressing!! Bring a cooler with you, because I guarantee you will want to take a bottle with you. It’s that good. Provel cheese is a staple of St. Louis cuisine and is a mixture of cheddar, provolone, and swiss.
As my friend said, do not come to a steakhouse and not order steak, BUT 1. Steak is pricey 2. I have been disappointed so many times by bad steak 3. My hubby is the steak man so I can always try his to see if I missed out. Well, I missed out. I ordered the Chicken Modiga: lightly breaded and grilled, provel cheese, white wine lemon sauce, prosciutto, and mushrooms. It was okay but it wasn’t super flavorful and just not as good as the steak.
So what makes Tony’s On Main Street’s steak so good? Yet another thing they are famous for: steak butter. You can also buy it to take home as well. I was the only one in our party of four to not get a steak. My hubby, Robbie, got the filet. My best friend, Natalie’s husband, Brad ordered Frank’s Combo. He said the garlic sauce with the shrimp was phenomenal. My bestie, Natalie, let me try her tenderloin medallions which included mushrooms and peppers and that added so much flavor to the steak. Of the three meals I sampled, her steak medallions were my favorite.
Au Gratin Not Hog Rotten
We all loved the Au Gratin Potatoes. Hog rotten? I will let you in on an inside joke. When I was reading the menu in the car on the way there, that’s how they thought I pronounced it. The potatoes were definitely not rotten but were sliced thin and covered in that delicious, provel cheese.
More to come on St. Charles…
I love St. Charles (see my blog post reviewing the town and other restaurants: http://travel-eat-read-repeat.com/st-charles/) Tony’s on Main Street will be a must-visit for us from now on.
