To the person who placed a hold on this book at my local library. Sorry!! I was saving this one for my trip to the beach. I read Beach Read on a recent trip to Tybee Island.
What is a “beach read”?
What do you think constitutes a good “beach read”? This book definitely meets the criteria for a “beach read” in my opinion. It wasn’t as “light” as a typical beach read, because a huge topic in the book is infidelity and death. However, it ticked other typical “beach read” boxes such as being easy to read and set in a coastal town. Overall, easy read is the most important checkbox because there are so many distractions at the beach. Specifically, there’s the waves, the wind, fellow beach goers, the number of alcoholic beverages consumed to determine whether a switch to water is needed. Obviously, that’s a lot going on.
Book Synopsis
The story begins with January Andrews moving to her father’s lake house after his death. January discovered her father’s infidelity at his funeral. Obviously, this is a lot to take in in a short amount of time. As she falls apart, her boyfriend of several years dumps her. Yep, just keep piling it on. In addition, January is a writer and the recent events have not only shook her world but also have resulted in a severe case of writer’s block. Upon arriving at the lake house, she discovers her neighbor is, Augustus Everett, her arch-nemesis from college. Finally, a friendly bet ensues for each to write a book of the other’s genre.
Based on that scenario, it’s probably not too hard to figure out where this book leads. This book is way too predictable to give it to five stars. But….did I enjoy it? Yes!!! Did it fulfill the purpose of perfect Beach Read? Yes!!! Did I enjoy it as much as People We Meet On Vacation? No!!! I remember that way being cuter and more funny. Will I read Emily Henry again the next time I’m looking for a “beach read”? Absolutely!!! In conclusion, what do you recommend?
