This was my second book by Khalid Hosseini. I rated it Four Stars. Although I enjoyed it and definitely recommend everyone reads it, I preferred A Thousand Splendid Suns. I thought this one started off strong but faded some in the middle. A Thousand Splendid Suns was excellent cover to cover, and I rated it five stars. The ending of The Kite Runner was superb. There were several twists and a lot of action/suspense that kept me on my toes and unable to put the book down.
Similar to A Thousand Splendid Suns I enjoyed learning about Afghanistan culture and history. However, I preferred the female characters and perspective of that story more. I had never heard of the Hazaras or the persecution they endured in that country.
Hassan was my favorite character and his story just absolutely shattered my heart. If you’ve read this book, who was your favorite character. Overall, I thought it was a heartbreaking but beautiful story about friendship, forgiveness and redemption.
The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns are Khalid’s most popular books.
